A-JOINT DECOFIX PRO

A-JOINT® DECOFIX PRO is a highly water-permeable
two-component special resin for the professional bonding of chippings and gravel. Its high strength makes it suitable for use on surfaces subject to light traffic loads.

A-JOINT® DECOFIX PRO secures and stabilises public areas in general path construction, on car park or cemetery paths, and on playgrounds. The high-strength special resin is also suitable for tree surrounds and parking bays, ensuring a neat and tidy appearance.

The slip-resistant properties of surfaces treated with A-JOINT® DECOFIX PRO minimise the risk of accidents. At the same time, it reduces the maintenance costs of the surface by making cleaning significantly easier.

Installation Instructions

Preparation

The surface must be completely cleared of weeds, roots, loose material, and debris to a minimum depth of 30 mm. As a general rule, the layer thickness should be at least three times the size of the largest aggregate grain used. To prevent settlement, we recommend a permanently permeable and load-bearing sub-base suitable for the intended traffic load. The additional use of a weed control fabric is recommended. Adjacent areas should be masked or covered to prevent contamination from the fresh binder. The aggregate used (2/45 mm) must be dust-free and completely dry. If cleaning and drying are necessary, allow sufficient time before installation. Important: Moisture in the mixture can significantly reduce its strength. We recommend storing the bottles in a warm environment before use, as this makes emptying them much easier.

Mixing

Fill the gravel/chippings into a suitable mixing container. We recommend using a compulsory mixer or a free-fall mixer. Start the mixing process and then add the entire contents of the bottles. Ensure the bottles are completely emptied. The total mixing time should be at least 6 minutes, until all stones are fully coated with the binder.

Application

Pour the prepared mixture onto the prepared surface and spread it evenly using a clean shovel. Then level the surface to the desired height using a screed or levelling bar. Compact the surface with a finishing trowel while simultaneously smoothing it. The better the surface is compacted, the more durable it will be.

Aftercare

Protect the newly installed surface from rain for at least 24 hours. We recommend using construction foil or protective tarpaulins as rain covers. These must not be placed directly on the surface. At a temperature of approximately 20°C, the surface can be walked on after 24 hours and driven on after 6 days. For heavily loaded areas, the installation thickness should be at least 50 mm. Always perform a strength test before putting the surface into service.

Cleaning work (pressure washer: max. 100 bar, minimum distance 40 cm) may only be carried out after at least 7 days. If required, the upper stone layer can be additionally sealed. To do so, apply a thin coat of A-JOINT® DECOFIX PRO to the clean and dry surface using a brush or paint roller (150–250 ml/m²).

Resin film: A-JOINT® DECOFIX PRO leaves a thin resin film on the stone surface, enhancing the colour of the aggregate (wet-look effect) while protecting it from dirt. This resin film will generally disappear over time due to weather exposure and normal use. If in doubt, create a small test area first. The resin film does not constitute a defect, as it does not affect the quality or functionality of the surface.

Application notes: Use A-JOINT® DECOFIX PRO only on a stable, load-bearing, permanently permeable sub-base or on surfaces with a minimum slope of 2%. Include expansion joints where necessary and ensure sufficient distance from tree trunks and plants to allow for growth. We recommend wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Work shoes and tools must be free of contamination and should be cleaned with water immediately after use. Regularly remove dirt, leaves, and moss from the surface.
